I'm Canadian born but spent many summers in Lomba do Botao, Povoacao, in Sao Miguel n the (70's and early 80's),where my father is from. I became familiar with this breed as it was the main dog used for herding our family cattle. Nice to see the dog here in Canada. They are great dogs for their purpose but I can see them easily bored and mischievous without a job. I definetly agree that this dog needs a strong owner and needs to know where it stands in the family pack. I recently visited San Miquel and I am sad to see that the breed line is being dwindled since the introduction of foreign gaurd dogs to protect the milking machines. I have fond memories of my grand father and great uncle using whistles and hand gestures herding cattle with the cao fila de san miquel. An excellent alert and bright herding breed. Best of luck with the breed. Cheers Rob from Mississauga
